Kutaways started when Denise Julian was asked to design a coat for a little boy in a wheelchair. With the guidance of an occupational therapist and the child's parents she consulted with them regarding the type of fabric and discussed an effective design to accommodate the needs of the boy and his wheelchair. Denise tailored some unique features into her design of the Kutaways coat; the coat has a halfback, a high zippered collar and contoured chair straps which fit through shoulder openings of the coat, limited adjustments are made to the straps and added moldings in the chair, when dressing for the outdoors. When Denise made this first coat she kept accessibility in mind and wanted an easy care product that was warm as well as comfortable for outdoor activities. The Kutaways coat has evolved after years of listening to our clients and their caregivers to make a product that is not only functional but also stylish at the same time. |

Trish Downing...Champion Ironman!
Trish Downing, a paraplegic athlete, is the second female wheelchair racer (first female paraplegic) to complete an Iron distance triathlon (Redman Triathlon 2005...finishing time 18:03). She is a member of the physically challenged National Triathlon Team and a pioneer in women?s wheelchair triathlon. She was a competitive cyclist from 1997-2000, but her career was cut short when she was hit head-on by a car while on a training ride in the fall of 2000 (September 17th) in Golden, Colo. Trish sustained a T-4 (chest level) spinal cord injury and was paralyzed from the chest down upon impact. Coming back from her near deadly accident, Trish has completed 13 marathons and a variety of triathlons from sprint to Iron distance. In October 2006, Trish will compete in the Hawaii Ironman World Championship.
